All normal work life is a series of workdays, rest days and holidays. We learn to manage our body clock to provide for healthy living.
Our collegiate community and its training programs work to normal industry time requirements. Schedules and timing may change according to work requirements and we learn how to balance our body clock to cope with the requirements of our commitments.
Principal, Capt. Bouc has ultimate authority for the Registered school and the guardianship of the under 18's when they are with the College. He is a good listener and has the wisdom of age, with over 65 years of working with young people. He has seen it all. You can not shock him and he will always give you good advice. Even though you may not like it you must accept it or leave.
Students over 18 years are required to respect the decisions of the principal after considering all things. If they can not accept his responsibility they will be asked to leave College.
The strict policy of three strikes and you are out will apply, unless Principal Bouc saves you.
Parents must show complete trust in the work of the Principal, the teachers and the academy masters. Without this trust, their children cannot succeed. Parents may not like what happens sometimes. Always discuss these matters with the Principal only.
Regular friendly communications with members of staff are the building blocks of trust. We request that parents become fully involved with their children's learning as often as possible, especially in their physical adventures, as this is a time of relationship growth and trust.
In matters of concern, the Principal is the only point of contact between parents and the College. Parents are asked to keep in regular contact with Capt Bouc, especially if they have any concerns about any happenings at College.
ACA Teachers have the responsibility to use National Curriculum documents to create learning adventures for students, to assess their competency against national standards and present awards as certificates or diplomas.
Some learning works will be managed online, most are face to face or in student team task learning. All students will become computer and internet competent.
Teachers hold Red Car authority.
Each College campus has young, well-qualified, either youth work or teacher graduates, residents on campus as Academy Masters to manage and mentor the link between the students, the teaching staff, and the Principal.
Academy Masters have the day-to-day management of the campus and its students. They are the team leaders and act for the Principal.
Academy Masters hold red card authority along with teachers.
Get to know them well.
Students wear uniforms and name badges to present themselves as part of a team.
Look smart at all times within your role as a student to present confidence and competency within your Team.
Your private image statement is for private time.
Students work in teams for everything they do including room and property maintenance.
Future happiness requires the skill to develop and maintain long-lasting friendships. We spend a lot of time talking about friendship. Gender is not relevant. The ultimate intimate friendship is good, long-lasting, and comfortable in each other's company. Sex may or may not be part of an intimate caring relationship. We spent time talking about this concept with our students.
Part of Aerie College Living & Learning is sharing ensuite rooms. Your room share team is selected out of the Captain's Hat.
Yes, we discuss the ultimate natural pleasure of closeness, intimate friendship. (This does not mean SEX.) Everyone needs at least one good close friend.
We work hard on building respectful friendship skills.
The Residential College lifestyle is a busy 24/7 life that creates Wellness and happiness.
We all maintain plans and journals to order our lives and manage our busyness.
One day each week is set aside for rest, personal quiet time, and reflection - - -"Me time".
Eight hours of quiet and sleep for most nights is expected. You will need good sleep to stay healthy.
Our ultimate goal for you is to own and operate your own business but we recognise you may seek to work for others.
Future employers pay for your concentrated full-time commitment to work tasks in work time.
Success in your own business requires the same.
Work Hard, Play Hard, Rest well
Your college time and effort is guided by your Academy Masters.
There comes a time for everyone when time out with completely different activities is required to recharge, refresh or even start again.
In computer language, this is a reboot. In some cases, a complete restart is required to fix the problem.
Holiday time is used for these thoughts.
Sometimes it is difficult to speak to others about their behaviour. The gift of an E-Card by email can help. A silent copy of all EC's is sent to student records and can be used by Teachers and Academy Masters in counselling
GEC = a green E-card gives praise at a high level
Three strikes and you may be out. = Beware the YEC
REC - Red E-card = Trouble - Meet with the Principal to consider STAY or LEAVE
We offer all the fun of new adventure learning experiences and the chance to enjoy a collegiate living lifestyle while satisfying school attendance requirements. Our students build an exciting, wellness lifestyle with a balance of Head, Hand, and Heart skills, for an interesting and rewarding future backed by a supportive Collegiate Community as a home base to return to when needed.
By Australian law, all young people between the ages of 6-16 must attend school full time, 5 days each week for 40 weeks a year. We can help the 40% of students who are not achieving success in the existing Yr 11 & 12 schools; all exceptional, some brilliant, some more practical, some more caring.
Being forced to attend school with no feeling of success is soul-destroying. At age 16 unhappy students are permitted by the government to jump out - - - - many do. For most jumpers, this leads to a very unhappy life.
Aerie College is ready to help these young people. It is well recognised that most young people are not ready to fly alone without some help until at least age 25 years. Yes, we all learn by mistakes BUT a little help will usually reduce the pain if things go badly wrong.
Aerie College community can help relieve that pain for young people who want another go.
All young people under the age of 18 are protected by Australian Law from interference. Government has an ongoing obligation to care for these exceptional young people's health, education and wellbeing, not just to prevent interference, their total support.
The government takes responsibility for young people who are unable to live with their families. We welcome these children, sometimes the whole family, especially where there is a need in unfortunate circumstances. All our students will achieve success in some form within our community and their wellbeing will be enhanced.
The government pays most of the costs of basic schooling through school grants. Families are required to contribute to living costs, the costs of some personal equipment, extra learning experiences, and school uniforms.
Student residential living costs within the community are part of normal family living expenses and responsibilities. Everyone is expected to help with general chores and maintenance of the community, its property, and its facilities. Our residential community college is your home for your time with us so you are expected to help with all home chores as part of your responsibility. We share our responsibilities for the home tasks, including looking after our guests through rosters.
If other people do your roster tasks, you pay them their fair wage.
Day students will be enrolled on the understanding that they will participate fully in all of the Aerie College activities, many activities occur outside of normal school hours. We do not work to normal school hours and, our students will not be all rostered for the same work, study and rest time. We roster our activities 24/7.
When not required for College learning and community events, local day students may (EXIT) return to their homes, eg for sleep time, family events, or to participate in local community events that are not part of the Aerie College schedule. EXIT arrangements must be discussed with Academy Masters and signed off in their student's activity log.
If there is any study work outstanding, EXIT may need to be negotiated concerning their work required schedule.
Under EXIT conditions, day students will be recognised by the local community, and are required to represent the general expectations of all our students. Day students are part of our college teams and must not damage their team's reputation in any way.
The E-card system applies at all times.
All students, day and boarding, will be required to maintain a time and dated activity log or portfolio on their computer and filed within the College database. This is an essential part of learning personal time management.
All our students will complete these SACE units or similar VET units with an assessment of competence as a commitment to our Collegiate Community and a requirement for successful living in Australia, especially for new Australians.
There is no time limit to achieving competency. If you already have the skills & knowledge, help others learn as part of your contribution to the community. While the following are essential learning, your time with Aerie College will be full of other adventures and commitments as part of our Aerie College Lifestyle.
You must get your reading, writing, listening and speaking English up to speed.
You will not get far in Australia without these skills.
Maths skills are used in everything we do. Get your basic money and calculation skills up to speed.
You will be involved with operating our community business and eventually, your businesses.
Do not make mistakes with your maths skills.
lack of business maths skills can be very expensive.
Drifting without a plan leads to depression and mental health problems. If you have an idea of where you want to be in your adult life you need to write or draw a map of your path to your future. Accept there will be changes as you grow and develop new ideas. Review your plan regularly. Talk to friends of all ages to help you work out your learning plan, your flight path - and change it as you grow. You start it at Year 11 and your final review is assessed at end of year 12.
Aerie teachers will help you in this research process. It is an essential skill to be able to find truth and fiction within your research.
Once you develop Research skills you can use them for many projects. There is so much knowledge in the world it is difficult to focus on one specific idea and drill down into it to find all the details and the truth. Life is not just living on the surface. You need the skills of search and deep research for knowledge in this ever-changing world. What you see on Google on the first search for something, or the first book you pick up, or what your friends tell you is rarely the total concept or even the truth.
VET Certificates and Diplomas are a natural practical skills progression from the SACE Essentials.
You can complete your SACE with VET units.
In our Post COVID world, a Diploma has more industry credibility than a university degree. It enables a faster track to earn money.
Get a university degree later if you want. Transfer credits apply.
Uniforms and working with friends build a supportive community. We all need good friends
We live and work in teams of 4.

We all need care and hugs. Learn how to give and receive care. Sometimes it needs to be very intimate and we all need to know how to give this with confidence.
General Handyperson skills are essential for every person. There is always that little thing that needs fixing.
Learn how to grow your own food. It gives great joy. It is very much less expensive and very good for your body food supply.

Many challenges in sailing small boats or paddling canoes or kayaks. Enjoy the experience. Think of the tactics, the winning and losing, the tiredness at the end of a long race.
Enjoy the pleasure of displaying, launching and paddling it. Take is on a river adventure as part of a Marketing Cruise. Show others what we do.
Our fast water safety and escort boat accompanies all our boating adventures.
